
A vibrant display of culture and political solidarity unfolded in Enugu State on Easter Monday as the iconic Coal City masquerades paid a grand visit to the residence of the Executive Chairman of Awgu Local Government Area, Hon. Uchenna Joseph Okolo, in honour of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah.

The colourful event, held at WTC Estate, drew a large crowd of residents and guests who gathered to witness a spectacular fusion of tradition, performance, and civic expression. Accompanied by drummers and cultural performers, the masquerade troupe delivered electrifying dances and symbolic displays, turning the visit into a powerful endorsement of the governor’s leadership.
The atmosphere was festive and charged with excitement as elaborately adorned masquerades paraded through the venue, showcasing the richness of Igbo heritage while conveying messages of unity, pride, and continuity.

Receiving the troupe, Hon. Okolo commended Governor Mbah for what he described as transformative leadership and impactful infrastructural development across Enugu State. He noted that the governor’s commitment to cultural preservation has strengthened the bond between governance and tradition.
“This is more than a cultural display—it is a reflection of the people’s appreciation for purposeful leadership,” Okolo said.
The chairman also revealed plans to collaborate with the state government to institutionalize the masquerade outing as an annual Easter Monday cultural festival. According to him, the initiative would not only preserve heritage but also serve as a platform for grassroots engagement and unity.

In a further show of support, Okolo reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Mbah ahead of the 2027 general elections, emphasizing that the administration’s achievements deserve continuity. He also announced a donation of ₦1 million to the masquerade group to support their cultural activities.
Speaking on behalf of the troupe, cultural custodian Chief Ndubuisi Ejoh highlighted the enduring relevance of masquerade traditions in Igbo society. He described the Easter outing as both a celebration of ancestral heritage and a unifying force that strengthens communal identity.
Residents at the event praised the initiative, describing it as both entertaining and meaningful. Many noted that such gatherings not only preserve cultural values but also reinforce public confidence in leadership that delivers tangible results.
