Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has called for sweeping reforms in Nigeria’s political system, urging that all politicians be subjected to lie detector tests administered by an international organization. He said the measure is necessary to strengthen accountability and eliminate individuals with links to criminal or terror-related activities from holding public office.
Bruce argued that any politician found to be involved in kidnapping, sponsoring terrorism, or participating in ransom negotiations should be immediately disqualified from contesting in any elective position within the country. According to him, Nigeria’s democracy cannot progress when people with questionable backgrounds are allowed to occupy positions of power.
“The time has come to introduce integrity checks into our political system,” he said. “Lie detector tests conducted by an independent international body will help expose those who are involved in criminal activities and protect Nigerians from leaders who do not mean well for the nation.”
He added that credible leadership starts with transparency and urged the National Assembly, civil society organizations, and the international community to support the initiative as part of broader efforts to restore trust in governance.
