The Deputy Speaker of the Borno State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Abdullahi Askira, has confirmed the abduction of 13 female farmers in the Askira-Uba Local Government Area of the state.

According to the lawmaker, the victims were seized by suspected Boko Haram/ISWAP militants while working on their farmlands, sparking renewed fear among residents who have endured years of insurgent attacks.

He urged security agencies to strengthen surveillance and patrols in rural areas, stressing that farmers must be protected as they contribute significantly to the state’s food supply and economy.

The latest abduction adds to a series of attacks on farmers across the region, raising concerns about safety as harvest season progresses.
