The Senate has approved President Bola Tinubu’s request to deploy Nigerian military troops to Benin Republic as part of a peace mission following the recent foiled coup attempt in the neighbouring West African country.
Lawmakers gave their backing after considering the president’s letter seeking authorisation for the operation which aims to support stability and restore order in Benin.
Details of the number of personnel and the duration of the mission are expected to be communicated in due course, according to parliamentary sources.
