Strong indications emerged on Tuesday that the rift between embattled Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) and the President of the Senate, Senator Godswill Akpabio, may soon be resolved.

The Sergeant-at-Arms of the National Assembly, in collaboration with security agencies, on Tuesday unsealed Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan’s office (Room 205, Senate Wing), which had been locked following her suspension in March.

With this development, the suspended lawmaker has now been granted access to her office and the National Assembly premises, paving the way for her potential return to legislative duties.

Akelicious gathered that the office was reopened ahead of the Senate’s resumption on October 7, 2025. Sources disclosed that the Senate leadership reached a decision during its meeting on Monday, where a motion for her recall will likely be moved. According to the arrangement, the Minority Leader, Senator Abba Moro (PDP, Benue South), is expected to move the motion, after which it will be seconded and debated.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, former Chairman of the Senate Committee on Diaspora and NGOs, was slammed with a six-month suspension in March 2025 after protesting the reassignment of her seat by Senate President Akpabio. She was barred from all activities of the 10th Senate.

Although her suspension formally lapsed in September, she was denied resumption due to legal disputes and resistance from Senate leadership. In July, Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court, Abuja, described the suspension as “excessive and unconstitutional,” ordering the Senate to recall her. The Senate, however, insisted that she must serve her full suspension term.

In September, her counsel, Michael Jonathan Numa, SAN, wrote to the Clerk to the National Assembly (CNA), Kamorudeen Ogunlana, demanding her recall, warning of possible contempt proceedings if she was not reinstated.

Responding, the CNA maintained that his office lacks the authority to override Senate resolutions, stressing that only the Senate could determine when she could resume.

A statement issued by the Director of Information, Bullah Audu Bi-Allah, on behalf of the CNA, reiterated that the matter rests squarely with the Senate, not the administrative arm of the National Assembly.

With her office now unsealed and fresh moves underway in the Senate, all eyes are on the October 7 resumption date to see if Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan will finally return to the chamber.
