In a disturbing development, troops of the Nigerian Army’s Defence forces were attacked while on a mission to rescue the recently kidnapped schoolgirls in Kebbi State.
According to a viral video circulating online, several soldiers were seen receiving medical treatment after the ambush. The troops reportedly came under heavy fire from armed terrorists along their route, forcing an intense gun battle before they were able to withdraw with the injured personnel.
Although the exact number of casualties is yet to be confirmed, security sources say reinforcements have been deployed to the area, and search-and-rescue operations for the abducted schoolgirls are ongoing.
The Nigerian Army is expected to release an official statement on the incident.
