Kano State authorities are investigating a daring car theft at the Government House early Monday morning, in which a Toyota Hilux belonging to the deputy governor’s convoy was stolen.
According to sources, the suspect reportedly gained access through Gate 4 around 5 a.m. and drove the vehicle out through the main gate without detection. CCTV footage later reviewed by security officials confirmed the route of escape.
Sources within the Government House disclosed that the deputy governor’s office complex is only patrolled during working hours or when the deputy governor is present, potentially creating a window for the theft.
The vehicle’s driver, identified as Shafiu Sharp-Sharp, has been questioned and briefly detained as part of the ongoing investigation. “An investigation has been launched. The driver is being interrogated, while the CSO is analysing the CCTV footage,” a source said.
Security agencies have been alerted with a full description of the stolen vehicle to aid in its recovery and the arrest of the suspect.
