Consumer Groups Commend Tinubu’s Directive on Food Price Reduction

The Northern Consumers Protection Association (NCPA) and the Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative have commended President Bola Tinubu for directing a Federal Executive Council (FEC) committee to fast-track measures aimed at reducing food prices across the country.

In a joint statement signed by NCPA leader Ahmed Abubakar and Grassroots Mobilisation Initiative national coordinator Samaila Musa, the groups described the directive as a timely step to ease the burden of rising costs on Nigerian households.

They said the President’s decision demonstrated a commitment to alleviating hardship, adding that the emphasis on ensuring the safe passage of farm produce across transport routes, as highlighted by the Minister of State for Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, was a commendable move.

The groups stressed that high food prices had placed a heavy burden on families, particularly those in lower-income brackets, affecting purchasing power and quality of life.

They body urged the committee to work with all stakeholders in the agricultural sector, including producers, marketers, and transporters, to overcome longstanding logistical challenges.

It also called for innovative solutions such as investment in infrastructure, technology-driven supply chain management, and stronger partnerships to ease the movement of farm produce from farms to markets.

The organisations pledged to support government efforts, advocating for consumers and working to promote a more equitable and sustainable food system.
