Court Adjourns Arraignment of Nasir El-Rufai Over DSS Absence

Court

The arraignment of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai has been postponed to April 23 after the Department of State Services (DSS) failed to present him in court.

During the resumed hearing, prosecutor Oluwole Aladejoye informed Justice Joyce Abdulmalik that El-Rufai remains in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Offences Commission (ICPC), where he is being investigated over alleged misappropriation of funds. As a result, the court adjourned the case to the new date for arraignment.

El-Rufai is facing three charges, including the alleged unlawful interception of phone communications belonging to the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, in violation of the Cybercrimes Act. He is also accused of using technical means to compromise national security and create public alarm, contrary to the Nigerian Communications Act.

The charges stem from a February 13 interview he granted on Arise News, during which he claimed knowledge of intercepted communications involving the National Security Adviser and an alleged plan to arrest him.
