…..as CISCO named institution Nigerian headquarters on Cyber Security.

OKADA- A Professor of Mathematical Physics and the Director of ICT Unit, Igbinedion University, Okada. Dr. Raphael E. Asibor has said that Igbinedion University Okada will establish Cyber Security Laboratory to be a state of the art dedicated space in the Ultramodern University ICT Complex.

Dr. Raphael disclosed this to newsmen at the closing ceremony of the 2019 edition of the Regional South-South Cisco Workshop held at Nigeria Premier Private University, Igbinedion University, Okada in Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo State during a five days training program which started on 23rd September 2019.

CISCO’s origin can be traced back to San-Francisco, California, USA, a protocol designed by husband and wife whose technology was bought by a Company and later on the name was changed to CISCO.

CISCO as a company is the leading IT Providers in the World, a professional company that trains people on how to use their Systems and deploy them in network environment, and also trains other instructors from other Academies on IT Essentials for fundamental certification, Cyber Security Certification, CISCO Certification Network Associate (CCNA) part one and two, with specialization in Routing and Switching .

Dr. Asibor stated that the participants in the Workshop were drawn from all over the country, which comprises of over 40 Universities, 10 Polytechnics, and 10 Industries as representatives who brainstormed, were trained and certified towards providing solutions to Cyber Crimes in Nigeria, Africa and the rest of the World.

The University DON added that the essence of the Workshop, as envisioned by the Vice Chancellor Professor Lawrence Ikechukwu Ezemonye, is to set up and establish Cyber Security Laboratory that will be the Nigerian headquarters on Cyber Security and a pace-setter in ICT development, Science and Technology’ and to also create a space where staff and students can engage in Cyber related activities including malware detection, deactivation, and penetrating testing.

In a Separate interview with some of the participants at University, the South-South ASC Representative of CISCO, Engr. Daniel Ekpah who doubled as a Cyber Security Analyst commended the participants on their quick assimilation of the lectures.

To this end, some of the instructors and students at the Workshop who spoke included: Mr. Salami Emmanuel, Mr Lucky Joseph Ogbogbo, Dr. A. E. Okpako, Mr Uche Nwakiro, Lydia Odogbe, Mr Damilola Olowookere and others; see Cyber Security as internet of things, stated that there is need to protect some sensitive information by individuals, groups, organizations, government and others as regards activities taking place online from black hackers to prevent Cyber Crimes, and 21st century knowledge on how to manage Cyber Security.

The workshop was declared closed by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Professor Deborah Odejimi.
