Delta Govt Urges Youths to Join Nigerian Army Amid Low Recruitment Turnout

The Delta State Government has called on young indigenes to enlist in the Nigerian Army, while commending the military’s inclusivity policy that ensures fair distribution of recruitment slots across all regions of the country.

The appeal was made by the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu, during a meeting with a Nigerian Army recruitment team led by Brigadier-General Moses Ikobah in Asaba.

The state government said it has intensified sensitisation campaigns and community engagement, including collaboration with traditional institutions and local authorities, to encourage more youths to take advantage of the ongoing recruitment exercise.

Officials expressed concern over low participation by Delta youths, warning that the state risks losing its allocated recruitment slots if eligible candidates fail to apply.

The recruitment exercise, which is part of the Army’s 91 Regular Recruit Intake, aims to enlist about 14,000 personnel nationwide, with each state expected to fill its quota.

Authorities also noted that increased enlistment would not only boost youth employment opportunities but also strengthen national security and representation within the armed forces.
