President Muhammadu Buhari, has assured Nigerians not to be afraid, because their fundamental human rights are guaranteed under his watch.
The President while speaking at the 2019 National Human Rights Awards Ceremony, in Abuja, said that his administration is focused on promoting and protecting the rights of every Nigerian citizen.
The President also said that his administration will always respect the rule of law, and sanctity for human lives across the nation.
Represented by the Solicitor-General of the Federation, Dayo Akpata, the President said that his administration’s commitment to protecting fundamental human rights can be seen in the fact that Nigeria is a party to all important international human rights instruments.
Also speaking at the occasion, the Coordinator of the United Nations Development Programme, Edward Kellon, called on the NHRC, to strategise ways to ensure the rights of every Nigerian is protected by the end of 2019 National Human Rights Summit.
Kellon stated that it is unfortunate that the rights of women are still not defended in the political space, as Nigeria is yet to realise the 35 percent affirmative provision for women in politics.
