A Nigerian woman has taken to social media to raise concerns after discovering that her live-in house help had been secretly using her personal belongings and flaunting them in TikTok videos recorded in her absence.
According to the woman, the discovery was made when she walked into the kitchen to get snacks and found the house help filming herself using the popular video-sharing app. Suspecting further misconduct, she reviewed the help’s TikTok account and was shocked to find multiple videos in which the house help wore her wigs, clothes, and used her bedroom as a filming location.
In the footage shared online, the house help was seen not only lying on her employer’s bed but also jumping on it; an act the employer described as deeply disrespectful and invasive. She said she had not given permission for any of her personal items or spaces to be used.
The employer said she initially tried to delete the videos, only to discover that TikTok stores deleted content in a temporary trash folder for 30 days, during which they can be restored and re-uploaded.
Faced with this, people around her advised that she terminate the house help’s employment and retain the phone until the 30-day window expired to ensure the videos were permanently deleted. However, the house help reportedly resisted this plan, insisting she must have her phone back immediately and threatening to go to the police if it was not returned.
At the police station, tensions escalated further when the house help allegedly attempted to flee. The employer has since taken the matter public, asking for opinions on how best to resolve the issue while protecting her privacy and ensuring her belongings are not misused further.
