The Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide in Anambra State has issued a strong caution to social media influencer, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), over comments he made concerning the burial of a slain Anambra-based entrepreneur, Martins Onyekesi.
Onyekesi, the Chief Executive Officer of Fish Magnet a prominent fish supply company was abducted from his Ezinifite-Okpuno residence in June 2025. Despite the alleged payment of a ₦10 million ransom by his family, the young businessman tragically died shortly after being released by his abductors.
VDM is reportedly scheduled to attend a candlelight procession in Onyekesi’s honor on Tuesday. However, a recent video obtained by TNC’s correspondent in Awka shows the influencer making remarks suggesting how he should be buried if killed in Anambra State a comment that has drawn widespread condemnation.
Speaking exclusively to our correspondent on Monday, the Anambra State President of Ohaneze Ndigbo Worldwide, Mazi Chukwuma Okpalaezeukwu, expressed deep dismay at VDM’s comments, describing them as “misguided” and harmful to the image of the state.
“While we condemn in totality the senseless and brutal killing of Martins Onyekesi a hardworking young man and beacon of hope for food security in our region we must also caution against inflammatory statements that can escalate tensions,” said Okpalaezeukwu.
He acknowledged Anambra’s share of Nigeria’s widespread insecurity, but stressed that efforts are ongoing in collaboration with the state government and security agencies to address the menace.
“The insinuations and mockery of death and sit-at-home protests are unacceptable. Anambra is not a war zone. We live here. This is not the first time VDM is coming to the state, and we urge him to desist from remarks that demarket the region or stoke fear,” he stated.
Okpalaezeukwu warned against what he described as politically motivated attempts to destabilize the state ahead of the upcoming elections.
“This is an election year, and tensions are already high. We will not allow politicians to use any individual celebrity or otherwise to provoke unrest in Anambra State,” he said.
Regarding the candlelight procession, Ohaneze urged that it be conducted in a peaceful and organized manner. The group advised that such events should take place in enclosed, secure venues to avoid any security breaches.
“We condemn any form of unguided or spontaneous march. Instead, we call on the state government and security agencies to provide a venue like Ekwueme Square for the event and to ensure adequate security for all attendees,” Okpalaezeukwu added.
He concluded by urging the public to avoid politicizing security matters, reminding all residents and visitors that the safety of lives and property is a collective responsibility.
