Ebonyi State Government has come to terms with Building Materials, Wielders, Tiles-marble and Aluminum dealers on the deadline for movement to the permanent site along the Abakaliki/Afikpo highway.
Addressing the leadership of Building Materials and Aluminum Markets in a meeting held at the Cabinet Office, the Secretary to the State Government and Chairman EXCO Committee on Market Administration, Dr. Ugbala Kenneth Igwe, on behalf of Ebonyi State Government adopted 31st August 2020 as the sole date for their relocation from old the materials market to the their permanent site, as requested by leadership of the market.
Dr Ugbala maintained that relocating the traders to the new site became imperative to decongest Spera in Deo Junction of the inconveniences associated with the market location and also enhance the aesthetics of the environment.
“In line with Ebonyi State Government’s directive, the movement of building materials market to their new site should have commenced on or before 1st June, 2020. The reason for today’s meeting is that we don’t want to start chasing you around in the process of this movement. As you can see, the deadline earlier approved by the State Government has elapsed and this time around, 31st August, 2020 deadline as demanded by your leadership remains unchanged. We as Government have entrusted the relocation into your hands while we supervise it because of the rapport existing between you and Ebonyi State Government“, he maintained.
Dr. Igwe, advised traders to establish security posts, perimeter fence, car park, eatery, borehole, conveniences, position for Generator Set or Transformer and banking hall (mobile bank) if possible, inside the market for easy of doing business in the area, adding that Ebonyi State Government has acquired large hectares of land to accommodate their demand.
He charged them to be more committed and work closely with the State Exco Committee and report every challenge confronting their relocation promptly.
Response, the Special Assistant to the Governor on industrial cluster, Ebonyi North, Mrs Peter Nwogbaga and the caretaker Chairman of Abakaliki LGA, Comrade Ben Nwovu, described the unanimous decision as a welcome development and lauded the Governor of Ebonyi State for his willingness to make Ebonyi State the best in Nigeria.
In a vote of thanks, Mr. Frank Agwu, on behalf of the members of Building Materials and Aluminum markets, expressed satisfaction with the State Government for the confidence reposed on them and promised that they will work harmoniously to deliver on the trust reposed on them.
Other dignitaries present at the event included the Commissioner for Commerce and Industry Prof. Ogbonnaya Chukwu, represented by Pastor Elijah Ituma, Commissioner for Lands and Survey, Chief Emmanuel Uguru, Commissioner for Business Development, Dr. Stephen Odo, represented by Dr. Elijah Agbo and Commissioner for Market Development and Management, Mrs. Chinwe Okah as well as the Permanent Secretary, Commerce and Industry.
