Edo 2020: I Am Afraid Of Going To Jail - Ize-iyamu

As Edo state governorship election draws near, Osagie Ize-Iyamu, has declared that he does not want to go to jail. Ize-Iyamu who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming gubernatorial election disclosed this to journalist after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday, Agust 7.

“I don’t have immunity, I don’t want to go to jail and it is not in my character to deal with anyone. They did their flag off at the stadium, nobody molested them. This morning I placed a call to the DSS director to tell him that I am aware that the deputy governor has sent money to the student union leaders, appealing to them to come and demonstrate at Ugbowo, which is the route we are taking to our flag off tomorrow (Saturday)… Of course the boys were just looking at him and informed us,” he said.
The ruling party, in a statement by its spokesperson Nabena Yekini, said the APC is in support of the development, adding that “seven cannot be greater than seventeen.”

The party also berated Governor Godwin Obaseki for allegedly promoting impunity and laying terror on the other arms of government in Edo state. It would be recalled that Edo assembly was plunged into turmoil as seventeen state lawmakers loyal to the party impeached state speaker Francis Okiye, and his deputy, Roland Asoro. Before the said impeachment occurred, the 14 lawmakers-elect whose seats were previously declared vacant were sworn in..

Then three other lawmakers who recently pledged their allegiance to Osagie Ize-Iyamu of the APC joined them in the impeachment proceedings against the speaker and his deputy. Men suspected to be hoodlums were later seen removing the roofs of the state House of Assembly and taking down the mace. Speaking about the development, APC said the days of impunity when “16 is greater than 19” are gone in Edo state.
