A viral video circulating online shows a man lamenting after an alleged raid by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Calabar, Cross River State, on Wednesday, October 22, 2025.
According to the man, EFCC officials forcefully gained entry into their apartment by breaking through the POP ceiling and allegedly pouring acid on the locks of their compound gate to open it.
Clips shared on social media reveal visible damage to the ceiling, which the man claimed was caused during the forced entry. He also alleged that the acid used destroyed their gate’s locking system.
As of Thursday, October 23, 2025, the EFCC has not issued any official statement regarding the alleged operation.
This incident has reignited public criticism of the agency’s methods, especially concerning nighttime raids and the use of excessive force—actions many Nigerians have described as unlawful and prone to human rights violations.
Further investigation and official clarification are awaited to verify the man’s claims and determine the full circumstances surrounding the alleged raid.
