EFCC Grants Bail to VeryDarkMan Amid Ongoing Fraud Investigation

EFCC and VeryDarkMan

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has confirmed the arrest of social media personality Martins Innocent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, following a series of petitions alleging his involvement in various financial crimes.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the Commission disclosed that multiple invitations were extended to Otse through his known addresses and communication channels, all of which he reportedly ignored. The EFCC said the allegations against him involve “grave financial malfeasance” and warranted immediate attention under its statutory mandate.

While acknowledging Otse’s public criticism and “unguarded attacks” against the agency, the EFCC clarified that his arrest was based strictly on the petitions received, not in retaliation for his comments. “Such conduct is condemnable, but it did not influence the lawful action taken,” the Commission stated.

According to the EFCC, a valid remand order was secured for his detention, and he has since been offered administrative bail, pending the fulfillment of all conditions required for release.

“The EFCC has the lawful right to hold Otse like any other suspect under investigation. We urge the public to allow the Commission to carry out its duties without fear or favour,” the statement added.

The agency also confirmed that once the ongoing investigation is completed, formal charges will be filed in court.
