Elderly Woman Killed, Three Abducted in Attack on Kano Village

An elderly woman has been shot dead following a violent attack on Yankamaye village in Tsanyawa Local Government Area of Kano State. The incident occurred late Saturday as residents prepared to settle in for the night, leaving the farming community in fear and disbelief.

During the raid, at least three villagers were abducted. Witnesses reported that the attackers arrived on motorcycles but abandoned them at a distance before proceeding on foot to carry out the assault.

Confirming the development, the Police Public Relations Officer in Kano, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said security personnel had been deployed to pursue the perpetrators. He assured the public that efforts were underway to rescue the abducted residents and restore normalcy to the area.

Meanwhile, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, during a recent Executive Council Meeting at Government House Kano, reiterated his administration’s commitment to addressing rising security challenges in the state. He warned that bandits, kidnappers and cattle rustlers have been attempting to infiltrate several northern local government areas, listing Kunchi, Tsanyawa, Gwarzo, Kabo, Sumaila, Shanono, Tudun Wada, Doguwa and Rogo among those affected.

The governor urged residents to remain calm, noting that coordinated security operations were ongoing. He also expressed support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of a national emergency on security, describing it as a decisive step toward curbing growing threats across the North.
