Enugu NUJ suspends caretaker chairman, sets up disciplinary committee

The caretaker committee of the Nigerian Union of Journalists(NUJ) Enugu State council has temporarily suspended its chairman, Comrade Emeka Anyalebechi for alleged anti union activities.

Rising from its expanded meeting held in Enugu on Monday, the union directed the suspended chairman to immediately hand over all council property in his possession to the secretariat.

In a communique signed by the secretary of the council, Comrade Chinedu Adonu, the union revealed that it has set up a five man disciplinary committee to look into alleged acts of misconduct against the suspended chairman.

The communique reads in part, “the council frowns at the anti union activities by some members of the council and warned members to desist from such or be sanctioned.

“The committee has temporarily suspended the chairman care taker committee Comrade Emeka Anyalebechi for gross misconduct and anti Union activities and direct him to hand over All union property in his possession to the Secretariat till further notice.

“The committee has constituted a five man disciplinary committee to investigate alleged gross misconduct/Anti Union activities against the suspended chairman and report back without delay”.

The council also appealed to the Nigeria Police Enugu state command to conclude its investigation into the case of Rex Arum and others as an impostors at the Press Centre to avoid union distraction.

It also commended Enugu state government and the state Electoral commission for its diligence and all inclusive preparation for the upcoming Local Government Election coming up on 29th February 2020.

The union however appealed to all participating political parties to eschew any act capable of jeopardizing the process and called for participation.
