Enugu PDP Inaugurates Caretaker Committee, Sets Sights On 2027 Comeback

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Enugu State has officially inaugurated its newly constituted caretaker committee, appointed by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party led by Acting National Chairman, Alhaji Abdulraham Mohameed, and National Secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu.

The inauguration, which took place in Enugu amid glitz, glamour and a mammoth turnout of party faithfuls from across the state 17 local government areas of the state, marked what many described as a fresh dawn for the party after months of inactivity and internal lull.

The newly inaugurated caretaker committee is chaired by Hon. Vitus Okechi, former Chairman of Igboeze South Local Government Area, with Hon. Chukwunonye Okereke serving as State Secretary.

Speaking during the ceremony, Hon. Okechi emphasized unity, inclusion, and the rebirth of the party’s winning culture. He affirmed that the PDP was on track to reclaim its dominance in the state.

“Enugu State is PDP and PDP is Enugu State,” he declared, while applauding members who refused to defect despite challenges.
He assured that their loyalty would be rewarded when the party returns to the Lion Building in 2027, describing victory as fait accompli. He further disclosed that the party’s mobilization strategy would be “efficient, smart and relentless.”

In his remarks, the State Secretary, Hon. Chukwunonye Okereke, underscored the need for inclusivity and the proper deployment of administrative competence in steering the rejuvenated party towards victory. He stated that the recalibrated PDP would uphold integrity, honesty, and appreciation of members as its guiding values.

Also speaking, the immediate past Vice Chairman of the party, Ozo Dr. Okey Ozoani, commended the NWC for reposing confidence in the new leadership. He traced the current political situation in the state to what he described as an “alien leadership disconnected from the PDP family,” noting that 2027 presented an opportunity for the party to restore its legacy.

Similarly, Dr. Nnamdi Onyia urged members to remain steadfast, stressing that party loyalty and consistency remained the foundation for political benefit and collective progress.

Other dignitaries and stakeholders present included Prof (Mrs) Iloh,Barr Celine Ugwu,Bar Chizoba Ezeagor, Chief Ken Obiora, Chief Chukwujekwu Nebo, and numerous party leaders and supporters who turned out in large numbers.

Goodwill messages echoed a shared resolve to immediately activate structures across the 260 wards of the state in preparation for future electoral battles.

The inauguration of the caretaker committee has rekindled enthusiasm across PDP ranks, with members expressing optimism about a full reset, repositioning, and eventual recovery of the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
