Community leaders as well as non-partisan groups in Enugu South Local Government Area of Enugu State have pledged to mobilise voters across the council in support of Governor Peter Mbah’s re-election bid in 2027, citing what they described as significant strides in infrastructure and governance across the state.
The assurance came during a grassroots mobilisation event organised by the Tomorrow Is Here Movement (THM), a socio-political support group, where ward executives were formally inaugurated and charged with deepening voter engagement ahead of the next general elections.
The event, held at Eke Out in Enugu South, drew political leaders, community heads, market women, youth groups, business magnates, clergy and party faithful who commended the governor for his impressive performance in the past two years in off.
In his opening remarks, the Enugu South Coordinator of THM, Hon. Obinna Ani, described the turnout as a demonstration of widespread support for the governor’s second-term ambition, saying the movement would intensify grassroots sensitisation efforts to highlight the administration’s achievements across the council area.
Chairman of the council area, Hon. Caleb Ani, commended the group’s mobilisation drive and expressed confidence that the area would deliver strong support for the governor in 2027.
Similarly, the Acting Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the area, Hon. Freedom Nnam, pledged the party’s commitment to electoral success in the forthcoming polls, assuring of their capacity to deliver the governor with large numbers.
Addressing the mammoth crowd at the gathering, the Secretary to the Enugu State Government, Prof. Chidiebere Onyia, outlined key projects undertaken by the administration many of which had been delivered in record time.
He cited the construction of 260 smart schools and healthcare facilities, with one in each ward, alongside major road projects, and the rehabilitation of public assets including the Hotel Presidential Enugu and the Enugu International Conference Centre.
According to Onyia, the projects reflect a deliberate strategy to expand access to education, healthcare and economic infrastructure.
He urged ward coordinators to sustain community-level engagement and ensure that residents are informed about government initiatives.
On his part, the Deputy Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Ezenta Ezeani, who also serves as Deputy President of the movement, said the administration’s ward-based development approach was unprecedented in the state’s history of the state.
He encouraged participants to remain active in civic processes and support programmes aimed at improving living standards, insisting that every supporter of the governor without voter’s card must ensure they register with the INEC and obtain their card.
Conducting the inauguration, the President of the Movement, Chief Tony Okonkwo, tasked them with strengthening grassroots structures across communities and ensuring the message permeates the people on the importance of the projects that the government was executing.
He described the governor’s development agenda as a “strong foundation” for continued progress and urged residents to safeguard public infrastructure in their localities.
Also speaking, the member representing Enugu South Rural Constituency in the Enugu State House of Assembly, Hon. Obiajulu Ugwu, extolled the governor for what she described as his transformative leadership and deliberate spread of development across the 260 electoral wards of Enugu State.
She noted that the administration’s ward-based infrastructure model had ensured that no community was left behind, stressing that the scale and speed of project delivery had repositioned the state as a benchmark for subnational governance in Nigeria.
Ugwu further called on women across Enugu South to regard the governor’s re-election bid as a collective responsibility, describing his administration as pro-women in both policy direction and appointments.
She highlighted the inclusion of women in key positions within government and ongoing empowerment initiatives targeting women in the areas of economic development, agriculture and micro, small and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs), further insisting that sustained support for the governor would consolidate gains already recorded in gender inclusion and grassroots economic advancement.
The event also featured interactive sessions with women and youth groups, as well as the conferment of a THM Ambassadorial recognition on Mr. David Nnamoko, Southeast Regional Manager of Moniepoint, for their partnership.
Several political office holders and stakeholders attended the gathering, including senior government advisers, members of the state legislature, local government officials, and traditional leaders.
