Former Adamawa North Senator, Elisha Abbo, is in the custody of the Nigeria Police Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) in Abuja following allegations that he raped a 13-year-old secondary school student.
According to the victim’s parents, the alleged assault occurred on June 29, 2025, at Abbo’s residence in Katampe, Abuja. They further alleged that the ex-lawmaker attempted to silence them by repeatedly sending money to the girl’s father after the incident.
In a dramatic twist, the family also accused Senator Aishatu Dahiru Ahmed, popularly known as Binani the 2023 Adamawa governorship candidate of visiting their home in an attempt to persuade them not to go public with the case.
Police sources confirmed that Abbo is being interrogated at the FCID headquarters. “The matter is under thorough investigation, and no stone will be left unturned,” a senior officer told reporters on condition of anonymity.
This is not Abbo’s first major controversy. In 2019, he was caught on video assaulting a woman at a sex toy shop in Abuja, sparking widespread outrage. He was also previously accused of attempting to blackmail a married woman with a sex tape.
The latest allegations have triggered strong condemnation from civil society groups, child rights advocates, and women’s organizations. The Executive Director of the Child Protection Network (Lagos Chapter) described the case as “a test of Nigeria’s criminal justice system,” urging authorities to resist political interference and ensure accountability.
Since losing his Senate seat in 2023, Abbo has remained in the public eye mostly for scandals rather than political achievements. His detention has already fueled heated debates on social media, with many Nigerians demanding swift and transparent prosecution.
