The recent examinations conducted by The West Africa Examinations Council, WAEC and The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB have left a sour taste in the mouths of Nigerians. As I visited Alegbo Secondary School, Effurun, Ebrumede School, Ugbomro, and two private schools on May 28, 2025, I was appalled by the deplorable conditions under which students were taking their WAEC exams. The sight of students using phones, rechargeable lights, and candles to write exams till late at night (10pm!) is a stark reminder of the systemic failures plaguing our education system.

WAEC: A BODY IN SHAMBLES

WAEC’s inability to maintain the integrity of exams is a clear indication of its failure. The prolonged exam duration, rampant use of unauthorized materials, and general chaos witnessed during the exams are all testaments to its ineptitude.

JAMB: A LEGACY OF FAILURE

JAMB’s recent examinations have been marred by controversies, malpractices, and technical issues. The massive failure rates, exam malpractices, and lack of transparency have eroded the confidence of Nigerians in the body. The 2025 exams were no exception, with numerous complaints of technical glitches, irregularities, and security breaches.

A BREATH OF FRESH AIR: NECO AND NABTEB

In contrast, our national examination bodies, the National Examinations Council (NECO) and the National Business and Technical Examinations Board ( NABTEB ), have consistently demonstrated their ability to conduct credible exams. It’s time we support and embrace them fully.

A CALL TO ACTION

I urge the Federal and State Governments to take immediate action to address the failures of WAEC and JAMB and overhaul our academic system. It’s time to restore integrity, credibility, and transparency to our examinations. We owe it to our students, teachers, and the future of our nation to ensure that our academic system is robust and reliable.

WAEC AND JAMB: TIME TO ACCOUNT!

The massive failure of these exam bodies is a national embarrassment. It’s time for accountability and reform. We can’t continue to tolerate the mediocrity and incompetence that has plagued our education system.

SUPPORT NECO AND NABTEB, OUR NATIONAL PRIDE!

Let’s join hands to build a better future for our children and our nation. It’s time to take a stand against the shameful state of examinations in Nigeria and demand change.

WAEC AND JAMB: SHAME ON YOU! NECO AND NABTEB, WE STAND WITH YOU! REFORM NOW, OR STEP ASIDE!

God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
