A viral social media report alleging that Hon. Ucheonye Stephen Akachukwu, Member representing Aba Central in the Abia State House of Assembly, was physically assaulted by Hon. Okoro Uchenna Kalu, the Assembly’s Majority Leader, has been strongly denied.

In a formal statement released today, Hon. Ucheonye dismissed the report as “false, malicious, and a product of desperate mischief-makers bent on tarnishing the image of the Abia State House of Assembly.” The report, which claimed that the Majority Leader struck Hon. Ucheonye with a beer bottle during a dispute over a cash gift from Governor Alex Otti, was described as “ridiculous” and “completely unfounded.”

Hon. Ucheonye emphasized that there has never been any physical or verbal altercation between himself and Hon. Uchenna Kalu or any other member of the Assembly since the inauguration of the 8th Abia State House of Assembly. He highlighted the peaceful and cooperative working environment that has been maintained among members, all united in advancing the development agenda of Governor Otti.

The lawmaker expressed disappointment that “faceless individuals and political detractors” would seek to spread such damaging falsehoods in an attempt to destabilize the Assembly and distract members from their legislative responsibilities.

Hon. Ucheonye further warned that those responsible for spreading the baseless story will face legal consequences and urged the public to disregard the report entirely.

“The 8th Abia State House of Assembly remains united, focused, and determined to justify the confidence reposed in us by the good people of Abia State,” he concluded.
