Fans of Suspended Police Officer Abba Kyari Celebrate his Release in Court

On August 1, 2021, the Police Service Commission (PSC) suspended Abba Kyari, then a Deputy Commissioner of Police, following his indictment by the FBI in the United States regarding his alleged involvement in a $1.1 million fr*ud case linked to Ramon Abbas, popularly known as Hushpuppi

On February 14, 2022, the National Dr*g Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) arrested Kyari for his alleged involvement in a 25kg coc*ine deal. He was arraigned on March 7, 2022, on charges of conspiracy, obstruction, and dealing in coc*ine.

Detention and Release (2024): Kyari was held in Kuje Custodial Centre for 27 months until he was granted bail in May 2024 to attend to his mother’s funeral rites.
Developments (2026)

As of March 2026, he has been discharged and acquitted in a separate, 23-count asset declaration case filed by the NDLEA, though other dr*g-related charges against him are still ongoing.
