FCT Doctors Declare Indefinite Strike Over Unmet Demands by Wike

Doctors under the Association of Resident Doctors, Federal Capital Territory Administration (ARD-FCTA), have embarked on an indefinite strike following the refusal of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, to address their demands.

The strike, which took effect on Monday, September 15, 2025, was announced after a congress held on Sunday. Speaking at a press conference in Abuja, ARD-FCTA President, Dr. George Ebong, said the action was not directed at the minister personally, but at the collapse of the health sector in the nation’s capital.

“The government has ignored both our financial and non-financial demands. Despite months of dialogue, there has been no response. Congress has therefore resolved that we proceed on indefinite strike until our concerns are addressed,” he stated.

The doctors’ grievances include non-payment of 26 members despite seven months of negotiations, persistent unemployment affecting service delivery, unexplained salary deductions, delayed promotions since 2023, and poor hospital facilities with some lacking even basic equipment like X-ray machines.

Ebong called on the minister to urgently intervene, stressing that the strike will continue until concrete steps are taken.

The indefinite action follows a seven-day warning strike earlier declared by the association.
