FGC Enugu Unveils Ultra-Modern Pavilion, Lays Foundation for Staff Quarters in Historic PTA-Driven Ceremony

Federal Government College (FGC) Enugu on Saturday witnessed a landmark moment in its history as the Parents and Teachers Association (PTA), under the leadership of Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah (Dike Eji Eje Mba Na Enugu), successfully unveiled an ultra-modern pavilion and laid the foundation for new staff quarters, drawing a distinguished gathering of government officials, traditional rulers, education stakeholders, alumni, parents, and students.

The colourful ceremony, which followed an earlier public invitation by the PTA, was marked by a novelty march and a thrilling novelty football match between CIC Boys and FGC Boys, sponsored by the PTA Chairman. The friendly encounter ended in an exciting 4–2 in favour of FGC Enugu, the match symbolised unity, sportsmanship, and the enduring bond between past and present students of the institution.

Speaking on behalf of the Honourable Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, the Director of Unity Schools, South East, Barr. Mrs. Amaka Uyanna, described the projects as “the first of their kind in the South-East” under a PTA-driven initiative. She praised the FGC Enugu PTA for its vision, commitment, and execution, noting that the association has set a standard worthy of emulation not just within the region but across the nation. She called on other Unity Schools and PTAs nationwide to adopt the Enugu model in supporting government efforts to reposition the education sector.

The Principal of FGC Enugu, Mr. Ezekiel Onyeka Ogbuanya, in his remarks, expressed deep appreciation to the PTA leadership for its unwavering support and partnership. He described the unveiling of the pavilion and the commencement of staff quarters as a turning point for the college, noting that improved infrastructure and staff welfare would translate directly into better academic outcomes and a more conducive learning environment for students.

The Executive Chairman of Enugu North Local Government Area, Hon. Dr. Ibenaku Onoh, who chaired the occasion and is also an alumnus of FGC Enugu, delivered an emotional address, reflecting on the school’s proud legacy. He noted that FGC Enugu has produced powerful and influential individuals who have contributed immensely to Nigeria’s development across politics, public service, academia, and the private sector. He commended the PTA Chairman for giving back to the institution in a manner that strengthens its foundation for future generations.

In his address, Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah, the PTA Chairman, revealed that the ideas behind the projects were inspired by the developmental footprint and governance philosophy of the Executive Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. He explained that the PTA resolved to complement both state and federal government efforts by prioritising infrastructure that promotes dignity, safety, and excellence within the school system. Dr. Mbah reaffirmed the PTA’s commitment to sustaining initiatives that will continue to uplift FGC Enugu as a leading Unity College in Nigeria.

A major highlight of the event was the award presentation to Hon. Dr. Chinedu Mbah by the Women Support Women Community Network (WOSCONET), a notable women advocacy group. The organisation hailed the PTA Chairman for his inclusive leadership, commitment to education, and support for initiatives that empower communities. The award was received with resounding applause from guests, further affirming the broad impact of his leadership beyond the school environment.

The Royal Father of the Day, HRM Igwe Ikechukwu Samuel Asadu (Ogadagidi), Chairman of the Enugu State Council of Traditional Rulers, spoke passionately on the importance of education as the bedrock of societal development. He commended the PTA for its foresight and described the projects as a blessing not only to FGC Enugu but to Enugu State and Nigeria at large. Igwe Ogadagidi urged parents, alumni, and well-meaning Nigerians to continually support educational institutions, stressing that investing in schools is an investment in the future of the nation.

The event concluded amid celebrations, cultural displays, and renewed optimism, as stakeholders described the day as a historic milestone in the journey of FGC Enugu. With the unveiling of the pavilion, the commencement of staff quarters construction, and strong endorsements from government, traditional, and civil society leaders, FGC Enugu is widely seen as entering a new era of growth, excellence, and national relevance.
