
A major fire outbreak has been reported at the Amuwo Odofin Industrial Estate in the Mile 2 area of Lagos on Saturday evening, triggering an emergency response from the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
An eyewitness said the fire broke out at Alkem Nigeria Limited, an industrial recycling plant located within the estate. As at the time of this report, the blaze was still raging and the full extent of damage had yet to be determined.
The Lagos State Fire Service confirmed the incident in an official alert issued late on Saturday evening, assuring residents and workers in the area that efforts were underway to bring the situation under control.
The Controller General of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye, said firefighters had been fully deployed to the scene to contain the inferno.
She added that the agency had adequately deployed to curtail the inferno and urged members of the public not exercise fear as emergency responders continued operations.
There were no immediate reports of casualties at the time of filing this report, while authorities said further updates would be provided as the situation develops.
