Gen. Olabanji takes over as infantry commander

Major General Steven Olabanji on Wednesday took over command of the Nigerian Army Infantry Corps.

Maj. Gen. Olabanji, who took over from Maj. Gen. Akeem Otiki who had manned the corps as Commander from August 2018 till March 2019.

The outgoing Commander has resumed as the General Officer Commanding 8 Division of the Nigerian Army in Sokoto and at the same the commander of Operation Sharan Dagi.

While addressing officers and soldiers during the handing and taking over ceremony at infantry corps headquarters in Jaji, Kaduna state, Otiki said the infantry Corps has become the envy of other corps in conduct of its operations.

He said he inherited a situation where troops over stayed in a particular operation for more than four years but within the period he served as the Corps Commander, over 3500 troops were rotated.

He added: “Infantry soldiers’ good effort has been reflecting in the battlefront. I was able to transform positively, the Infantry Corps with the effort of the Chief of Army Staff.”

While wishing the incoming commander best of luck in his new assignment, he tasked the personnel to extend the maximum cooperation they gave him to the new commander.

Olabanji assured his predecessor that he will consolidate on his achievements, adding the “infantry Corps will be taken to its pride of place in the Nigerian Army, with the assistance of other retired officers and the infantry personnel.”
