
The police in Rivers state have arrested a Ghanaian national identified as Samuel Frimpong for allegedly removing the roof of his tenant, Anozie Tochukwu, who resides at No. 7 Chief Chike Street, Mgbuoba, in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports, Frimpong removed the roof on Tochukwu;s apartment after he failed to vacate his premises following the expiration of a two-week grace period to do so.
Tochukwu mentioned that he moved into Frimpong’s house in January 2024 and has consistently paid his rent. He said sometime in the last quarter of 2025, Frimpong sent him a letter asking him to vacate the apartment and carry out renovations that needs to be done before handing over the keys not later than the end of January 2026.
He mentioned that on February 1, he met with his landlord and pleaded for more time till February 14 to move out. He stated that he even showed Frimpong the transaction payment for a new apartment he secured. He said that to his greatest surprise, on February 3, his landlord invaded his premises and began to de-roof his apartment with his pregnant wife and two children inside. He said shortly after the roof was removed, there was a heavy downpour and this led to the destruction of all his properties including documents, certificates and furnitures.
‘’Currently, all my properties worth 25 Million Naira got damaged inclusive of 43 inches Maxi television, a deep freezer, chandelier, set of chairs, NYSC certificate, my degree certificate, my professional certifications, books, clothes, foodstuff, 4×6 foam and bed frame, baby medications, pregnancy medications, my wife’s certificates, children birth certificate, my shoes, children shoes and wife shoes, and my saving box of close to nine months of saving is missing. My ceiling fan is missing,” Mr Tochukwu said.
The matter was immediately to the Ozuoba Police Division in Obio/Akpor, Rivers State, and the landlord was arrested on Wednesday, February 3.
Confirming the arrest, the police imagemaker, Grace Iringe-Koko, confirmed Mr Frimpong’s arrest, said the matter is under investigation.
