The Gombe State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a motorcycle theft syndicate operating across state lines and recovered three stolen motorcycles in separate operations within Akko Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, confirmed the development in a statement obtained on Tuesday, adding that the arrests followed a tip-off from a public-spirited individual.

“On July 7, 2025, at about 12:00hrs, operatives of Operation Hattara led by CSP Ali Madawaki acted on credible intelligence received from a Good Samaritan.

“The team raided a suspected criminal hideout at Tudun Hayin Kwarai, Misau, in Akko LGA, where they arrested two suspects,” Abdullahi said.

The suspects, identified as Misba’u Adamu, 25, from Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State, and Adamu Ibrahim, 28, from Garko LGA of Kano State, reportedly confessed to breaking into the residence of one Mohammed Usman in Hayin Kwarin-Misau on July 6 at about 4:00am.

“They admitted to stealing two motorcycles — a Qlink Cassie with registration number ABC 484 WN, and a Hero Hunter with registration number GME 36 QL,” DSP Abdullahi stated. “The total value of the stolen items is estimated at ₦1.8 million.”

According to the police, the motorcycles were recovered from the premises of a certain Babangida (surname unknown), where they had been hidden. The suspects are currently in custody, and efforts are ongoing to track down the gang leader and other accomplices still at large. They will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

In a related development, Abdullahi disclosed that another motorcycle was recovered during a routine night patrol in Wuro Birji area of Akko LGA.

“At about 1:00am on the same day, a patrol team sighted an individual riding a black Jincheng Kasea motorcycle with registration number DKU 099 UK. The suspect, upon spotting the team, abandoned the motorcycle and fled,” he said.

He noted that attempts to apprehend the fleeing individual were unsuccessful, but the recovered motorcycle is now in police custody. Investigations are underway to identify the suspect and trace the rightful owner.

Abdullahi urged the public to continue providing the police with useful information to combat criminal activities across the state.

“The Gombe State Police Command remains committed to safeguarding lives and property. We call on residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities in their communities,” he added.
