Nigeria Senate Chief Whip and a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress(APC), Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has hinted that Abia State Governor, Okezie Ikpeazu would join the governing APC soon.
Senator Kalu also hinted that the Abia Governor had promised long before now to join the party, positing that he would be highly elated to receive Ikpeazu into the progressive party in the state.
The Senate Majority Chief Whip, who was a former Governor of Abia State between 1999 to 2007, spoke during an interview with select journalists in Umuahia, on Thursday.
According to Kalu, “We are happy that Governor Dave Umahi has joined us, because, he made us this promise many years ago. Like Governor Okezie Ikpeazu made us promise that he will be coming to APC. We have not seen him, we are waiting for him.
“I will be very happy to welcome Governor Ikpeazu into the party. We are not discriminating anybody, our duty is to continue to welcoming people, unless the Governor changes his mind. One of my friends who is a top security Czar in Nigeria, when Governor Ikpeazu was going for the first Supreme court judgement, he promised him he will be coming to the APC, the top security czar asked me to agree to welcome the governor, and I told him I’m willing. So, we are still waiting for Governor Okezie Ikpeazu.
“APC is a party for everybody in Nigeria, is not a sectional party. Afterall, I am a Catholic, I’m in APC. It is not a Moslem party as some people said. I’m not a religion bigot, but a strong Catholic that believes in cathatesm. If I’m in APC, every other person can be in APC, “the ex-Abia Governor concluded.
