The Governor of Enugu State, Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, today received Nigerian international and Udinese star goalkeeper, Maduka Okoye, at the Lion Building, in a visit that underscored the state’s commitment to youth development and sports advancement.

Describing Okoye as a “true son of Enugu,” Governor Mbah praised the footballer for his outstanding performances on both national and international stages, and for his decision to give back to his roots.
During the courtesy visit, Okoye unveiled his plans to establish a charitable foundation and a football academy in Enugu. The initiative, according to the goalkeeper, aims to inspire young talents, nurture future stars, and positively impact lives through sport and education.

In recognition of his achievements and philanthropic vision, Governor Mbah announced Okoye’s appointment as an Ambassador of Enugu State. The role, he said, will see Okoye serve as a role model to the youth, particularly students in the state’s innovative Smart Green Schools.
“As a symbol of excellence and dedication, Maduka Okoye embodies the spirit of the new Enugu we are building,” the governor said. “His story will inspire a new generation of dreamers and achievers.”
To support the proposed football academy, the governor committed to allocating land for the project. He also extended an invitation to Okoye to participate in the next edition of the Enugu International Marathon, which is expected to feature elite athletes from around the world.
