Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has launched a major education initiative, flagging off the construction of 102 new schools and renovation of 170 existing schools across the state’s 23 local government areas. The Reaching Out-of-School Children (ROOSC) project is part of his administration’s strategy to expand access to quality education and reduce the number of out-of-school children. This move demonstrates the government’s commitment to education as a foundation for sustainable development.
Since taking office on May 29, 2023, Governor Sani has prioritized education, describing it as a powerful instrument for social mobility and long-term stability. Deliberate reforms and strategic investments in the sector have already produced measurable outcomes. The state government has invested heavily in education infrastructure, constructing 62 new secondary schools and commencing work on 50 additional schools.
The government has also built or renovated hundreds of classrooms and supplied over 81,000 units of furniture to improve the learning environment. Improvements have been made in water and sanitation facilities, and vocational training centers have been established to promote skills-based education. These efforts aim to support the growing demand for quality education and equip young people with necessary skills.
Governor Sani acknowledged the support of international development partners, including the Islamic Development Bank, Kuwait Fund for Arab Economic Development, and Save the Children International, among others. The presence of community leaders, traditional institutions, and development partners at the ceremony demonstrated a shared commitment to improving education in Kaduna State.
