Borno State Governor Prof. Babagana Zulum, has assured that no local government in the state would be allowed to fall under insurgent control.

Speaking to State House Correspondents after a closed session meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the State House, Governor Zulum explained that he had been evaluating the situation in the affected local government areas over the past weeks, calling on the military, civilian authorities, and all stakeholders to unite in defending the region.

He assured that the Nigerian military has taken significant steps aimed at reducing the risk of insurgency in the Northeast, especially in his state, to stop assaults on both military installations and local communities. He emphasized the need for stronger cooperation between the state and the federal government to help curb the ongoing attacks on both military installations and civilian populations.

Speaking on measures to address the crisis, the governor disclosed that the federal government had already initiated some military decisions to counter the insurgency. He highlighted the proposed establishment of forest guards as a potential “game-changer” in the fight against terrorism.

Additionally, he raised concerns over the use of sophisticated weapons by Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province insurgents, assuring that the federal government was working on solutions.

The meeting came amid escalating attacks in Northern Nigeria, with increasing calls for stronger military intervention to restore stability in the region.
President Tinubu recently declared that his administration would not surrender any part of Nigeria’s territory to terrorists or criminals and vowed to take back control of the forests, reinforcing the government’s commitment to securing the nation’s territory and ecological resources.

The president also approved the establishment of a national forest guards system to secure Nigeria’s 1,129 forests across the country.
