Gunmen suspected to be bandits have attacked the convoy of Zamfara State Governor’s Chief of Staff, Alhaji Mouktar Lugga, in a daring ambush along the Funtua–Gusau highway.
The incident occurred near Kucheri village at about 6:16 p.m., on Thursday April 2, 2026, as Lugga was returning from an official engagement.
According to reports, the attackers emerged from both sides of the road and opened fire on the convoy, targeting the vehicle conveying the Chief of Staff and his team.
A bullet reportedly pierced the windshield, narrowly missing the driver, while another assailant attempted to fire at close range but his weapon malfunctioned.
Despite the attack, the driver successfully maneuvered the vehicle out of the ambush, and all occupants escaped without injuries.
The incident highlights the persistent security challenges in Zamfara State, where bandit attacks continue to target both civilians and government officials.
