Gunmen Attack Federal Polytechnic Oko, Four Confirmed Dead, Others Injured in Suspected Cult Clash

Gunmen Attack Federal Polytechnic Oko

A wave of shock and grief has swept through Federal Polytechnic, Oko, following a violent attack by armed assailants that left at least four students dead and several others critically injured. The incident, which occurred around Total and Tipper Junctions near the campus, is being linked to cult-related violence.

Eyewitnesses described scenes of panic and bloodshed as gunmen, reportedly arriving in a black Lexus SUV and on a motorcycle, opened fire on unsuspecting students on Thursday night. According to police sources, seven students were shot during the attack, with four fatalities confirmed. Two victims—one male and one female—were captured in a now-viral video gasping for life in a hospital bed, sparking widespread outrage and sorrow on social media.

Unconfirmed reports of abductions also emerged in the aftermath, though some students on the scene have denied these claims. Anambra State Police Command has since taken control of the area in collaboration with Joint Security Forces, who confirmed the rescue of two injured students and said investigations are currently underway.

Police spokesperson DSP Tochukwu Ikenga described the incident as a cult-related reprisal attack. “Our operatives responded swiftly and have since secured the affected areas. We are tracking the suspects and urge the public to remain calm but vigilant,” Ikenga said.

This violent episode has intensified concerns over rising insecurity in the state, especially with the Anambra gubernatorial election slated for November 8, 2025. Despite the ongoing Operation Udo Ga Achi—a state-led security initiative aimed at restoring peace—the latest attack underscores the persistent threat of cult violence and political tension.
