Former beauty queen and actress Regina Askia-Williams has publicly tendered an apology to Senate President Godswill Akpabio following revelations made during a live broadcast by Dr. Mgbeke Duru, which allegedly exposed what he described as falsehoods propagated by Senator Natasha Akpoti.
Taking to her verified Facebook page, Askia-Williams admitted that after watching Dr. Duru’s explosive interview, she could no longer maintain a neutral stance. “Just did one of the hardest things — I tendered an unequivocal apology to my ‘Big Brother,’ the SP, after watching that earth-shaking interview by Dr. Duru,” she wrote.
The former beauty queen acknowledged that her efforts to remain impartial were shattered by the revelations, and she now regrets having misjudged the situation. “Tonight, I ate humble pie,” she added.
Askia-Williams also expressed doubt over Senator Akpoti’s ability to recover from the weight of the evidence presented and extended sympathies to real victims of sexual harassment, stating that the weaponization of gender-based sympathy should be confronted with the same fervor used to fight harassment itself.
“I wish her well and extend my deepest sympathies to all women who genuinely endure sexual harassment. Weaponization of gender-based sympathies must be checked with the same energy with which we cry out against sexual harassment,” she stated.
She closed her post by thanking Dr. Duru for his revelations, while cautiously hoping it is not another case of public manipulation. Announcing her decision to step away from the spotlight once more, she said, “As for me, I’m returning to my sabbatical from social media. Let no one interrupt my leave again. Thank you.”
The apology adds a new layer to the ongoing controversy between Senator Natasha Akpoti and her critics, following recent statements and evidence reportedly submitted to authorities by Dr. Mgbeke. The case continues to draw national attention as more personalities weigh in on its unfolding developments.
