Veteran Nollywood actor, Yemi Solade, has opened up on why he no longer attends church, revealing that his decision dates back to 2013.
Speaking on the Honest Bunch Podcast, the actor said his experience in church became a burden rather than a blessing.
He recalled a particular incident that triggered his decision. “If you see me in a church it’s either we are filming… Something happened in my church, I got into the church with my wife that year, 2013. I’ve been told in the church to tell producers not to call me for work on Sundays and I sepe’d for the Pastor. It is from that thing that you said I shouldn’t do on Sunday that I put hand in my pocket and I drop here,” Solade said.
The actor questioned the belief that a person’s life would suffer without regular church attendance. According to him, his life has remained stable and even more peaceful since he stopped going. “A notion that if you don’t attend church, one’s life will nosedive, I have not seen anything change. Rather, I have peace, I do well, because everyday of my life when I was going to church, I got messages, all sort of disturbances,” he explained.
Solade also pointed out that church commitments were interfering with his career and personal time. “If you are not invited to one committee… When will I have time to work?” he asked.
The actor’s remarks have since sparked conversations online, with many weighing in on the pressure of religious obligations versus personal freedom.
