Ajayi Boroffice, the senator representing Ondo North in the National Assembly, on Thursday said he was not interested in contesting next year’s gubernatorial election in Ondo State.
Boroffice also said he had not endorsed the aspiration of anybody interested in the race as being speculated in some quarters.
A statement by the media Bureau of Boroffice signed by Kayode Fakuyi, the Senator’s media aide, said the major challenge of the state party of the All Progressives Congress (APC) after the just-concluded general elections was how to reconcile different tendencies in the party.
“The media bureau of the senator representing Ondo North senatorial district, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice is aware of jostling for the governorship ticket of All Progressives Congress (APC) and its attendant issues ahead of the 2020 governorship election in Ondo State.
“This media office is abreast of claims by some governorship aspirants in the APC that Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has endorsed their governorship aspirations.
“In addition, we are aware some governorship aspirants have been making frantic efforts to woo and lobby prominent leaders in the political structure of Prof. Ajayi Boroffice to support their governorship aspirations under the premise that Prof. Ajayi Boroffice has said he has no governorship ambition.
“Firstly, Prof. Ajayi Boroffice believes the intense jostling for APC governorship ticket in Ondo State is way too early.
“Having had an unimpressive outing in the 2019 general elections, this is the time for all leaders, stakeholders and party members to unite for genuine reconciliation and re-energise the party,” the statement said.
Boroffice urged his political associates to keep faith with the APC and the process of revitalizing the party in the state.
He said: “They should continue to exercise patience until such an appropriate time that we will all sit together to take a collective decision on the next governorship election in Ondo State.”
