Former Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Prof. Usman Yusuf, has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of using the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as a tool to intimidate and silence dissenting voices.
Speaking after regaining his freedom, Prof. Yusuf described his recent arrest and detention as “a deliberate attempt to demean and dehumanize” him, alleging that the move was politically motivated.
“I endured six days in an EFCC cell and 24 days in Kuje prison,” he said. “This was not just about me—it was a clear message from this government to those who dare to speak out. They want to make this country a one-party dictatorial state.”
The outspoken professor vowed not to be deterred by what he called a campaign of fear and repression, asserting his commitment to continue speaking truth to power.
