Ibadan North residents write open letter to APC national secretary, Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru
Read the letter below…
“Hands Off Ibadan North. This Is Not Osun.
“Dear Dr. Surajudeen Ajibola Basiru,
This is an open letter not just to you, but also to Mr. President, the acting APC National Chairman, and every true progressive watching the unfolding drama in Ibadan North Federal Constituency.
“We are deeply disturbed by your sudden interest in the upcoming Ibadan North bye-election, especially your decision to convene an unofficial meeting with selected aspirants at 5:00pm on Tuesday, July 8th, 2025 ,a meeting that neither bore the official seal of the party nor followed due process.
“Let it be clear: Ibadan North is not Osun State.
We urge you to focus on your personal governorship ambition and steer clear of our local political terrain. Playing with fire in Ibadan North will burn more than fingers it will burn bridges, loyalty, and the integrity of the APC.
“As National Secretary, we understand you carry weight.
Our aspirants chose to honor your invitation out of respect for your office, not for any personal allegiance. We now ask that you extend the same respect to them and to the good people of Ibadan North by keeping your hands off our internal democratic process.
“It is no longer a secret that you have been allegedly compromised by the son of late Arisekola Alao, who is desperate to buy his way to victory through backdoor consensus. This desperate plot to use your office to force a candidate on Ibadan North residents is not only shameful — it is dangerous.
“DO NOT BE A TOOL OF DESTRUCTION.
“The people of Ibadan North are watching.
The party faithfuls are aware.
And history will remember those who stood on the wrong side.
“We are using this medium to appeal to Mr. President and the Acting APC Chairman to keep a close eye on this process before a few selfish actors rip apart the fabric of unity in the APC.
“Let the will of the people stand. Let there be a free and fair primary election.
“We say NO to imposition.
NO to backdoor deals.
NO to using national offices for personal gain.”
