Human rights lawyer, Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, has issued a strongly worded statement warning that Nigeria is now under global scrutiny following a series of alarming advisories and classifications by major world powers.
In his Monday commentary titled “A Nation on Notice: How the World Declared Nigeria Unsafe,” Ejiofor said recent actions by the United Kingdom and the United States reflect deepening concerns over Nigeria’s security crisis.
Ejiofor noted that the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) quietly updated its travel advisory, listing more than 20 Nigerian states as dangerous for British citizens. The advisory highlights widespread insecurity, ranging from insurgency in the North-East to banditry in the North-West, militancy in the Niger Delta, and rising violent crimes across the South-East and South-West.
He added that former U.S. President Donald Trump’s re-designation of Nigeria as a “Country of Particular Concern” on grounds of religious freedom violations has intensified international anxiety, with suggestions of possible intervention if conditions worsen.
Ejiofor described the developments as a diplomatic warning that global confidence in Nigeria’s stability is eroding.
He argued that the foreign alerts mirror the everyday experiences of Nigerians who increasingly feel unprotected, stating that insecurity has evolved from a regional challenge into a national emergency.
Outlining a path forward, Ejiofor called for a total overhaul of the country’s security architecture, improved accountability, transparency in government communication, and constructive engagement with international partners.
He warned that without swift and measurable reforms, Nigeria risks deeper instability.
“The world has spoken. Now, will Nigeria listen?” he concluded.
The statement was signed by Sir Ifeanyi Ejiofor, Esq. (KSC), on November 10, 2025.
