President General of the Igbo Community Association, FCT, Engr. Ikenna Ellis-Ezenekwe, has issued a strongly worded open letter to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, accusing his administration of plunging Nigerians into “undue hunger and bitterness” through poor economic decisions.
In the letter, Ellis-Ezenekwe faulted the abrupt removal of fuel subsidy without the immediate rollout of promised welfare programs such as subsidized mass transit, increased civil servant wages, and strengthened food security measures. He lamented that, instead of delivering on these pledges, the government had engaged in “a spending spree on frivolous projects” including luxury ocean liners and frequent foreign trips.
The community leader also criticized the decision to float the naira, which he said triggered a steep currency devaluation, making it one of the weakest in Africa. He cited skyrocketing commodity prices, including locally produced rice now selling for over ₦100,000 per 50kg bag and cement priced above ₦10,000 per bag, as evidence of the dire situation.
“These are heartless conditions for civil servants to survive under,” he wrote, urging the president to “rise to the occasion and save your people from mass starvation.”
