Imo: PDP Agonizing Excessively Over 2019 Lost Guber Election, Hence Steadily Losing 2023 In Advance

By Ogu Bundu Nwadike, M.A

{Nobody should die where his cow died. Don’t cry over spilled milk. Real failure is tarrying on turf where you fell. Once beaten, twice shy. In the face of tribulation, organize, don’t agonize. The real man is one who keeps his head when others around him are losing theirs!}

For about two years now, precisely 22 months now, January 14, 2020 till date, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has been striving and struggling to diminish the office of the Executive Governor of Imo State, His Excellency, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma. And e get why?

That’s as the judgement of the Supreme Court remains a sustainable forgone alternative to the PDP and it’s directly affected leader in the State. After the electoral hostilities of Saturday, March 9, 2019 favoured PDP and Rt. Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the legal brouhaha of January 14, 2020 favoured the All Progressives Congress APC in the State and Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma.

Now, since after the January 14, 2020 unexpected thunderbolt hit the PDP and Ihedioha at the Supreme Court, the umbrella party has sustainably sweated to torpedo the victory of APC and Uzodimma. The PDP has painstakingly gone the extra mile to see the lucky governor on his head instead of keep him on his toes.

The PDP has fulfilled all righteousness in the recorded and published threats by one of its chieftains (name withheld) to make Imo State ungovernable should the Supreme Court fail to review and reverse its judgment on the 2019 gubernatorial election.

The hallmark of the threat has been alleged to be the unleashing of strange kind of insecurity that’s unprecedented in the one time nationally acclaimed most peace State in Nigeria. Unknown gunmen and Ungun known men sprang up from across the State, attacking public property, and ultimately attacking the Imo State Command Headquarters of the Nigeria Police and the Imo State Command Headquarters of the Nigerian Prisons Services (a.k.a Nigeria Correctional Services), breaking the Owerri Prison and freeing about 2000 inmates.

Furthermore, the PDP has used the petitions by the Barr. Kingdom Okere of Redemption Advanced Party (RAP) and Chief Philip Umeadi SAN, former Executive Director at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other legal practitioners, to pursue a possible ouster of Uzodimma at the same Supreme Court that enthroned him.

There has been a deliberate and conscious strategy by the PDP in Imo State to discredit the Uzodimma administration via the instrumentality of severe media warfare, particularly on the social media; all in the name of opposition. Since January 14, 2020, the PDP media unit has been ferociously hitting left, right and center at the Government of Imo State in care of Governor Hope Uzodimma.

The PDP has gone from the agenda of keeping Governor Uzodimma on his toes to keeping him on his hands and head as if in an acrobatic display. They have done everything in the “Book of Power Mongering and Rustling” to shake Governor Uzodimma out of Douglas House!

Ironically, amid all of that, the governor has proved to be more than conquerors. He has become “anu ana agba egbe, ona ata grass”! He has shown that he has the capacity to withstand all the vicious attacks by the opposition, the main of which are from the PDP.

Expectedly, that has created a negative situation for the PDP. Their business-like fights against Governor Uzodimma over the past near two years has left boomerang effects of all sorts that has placed the Party in a terrible dilemma. As a result, PDP in Imo State is now seriously between the devil and the deep Red Sea! The Party has been rattled and stupefied by Governor Uzodimma’s unflinching tenacious hold on to his mandate, verifiably delivering superbly on good leadership and good governance! It’s not easy!

Point in issue here is that with only full 12 months to the next general elections and about 24 months to the guber election, the PDP in Imo State is still fully engrossed with thoughts and talks about the 2019 guber election which they lost on January 14, 2020.

Imo PDP is dying where their cow died in 2019. Imo PDP is crying uncontrollably over their spilled milk of failure in 2019. Imo PDP is displaying traits of a real failure as the leaders and members tarry on turf where they fell in 2019. Thus far, Imo PDP is once beaten, risks twice shy. In the face of their tribulations, Imo PDP is agonizing instead of organizing. In summary, Imo PDP are losing their heads when Imo APC are keeping theirs!

Incidentally, whatever gains PDP may seem to have made in the State with their war against Governor Uzodimma and APC, the PDP is severely suffering from self-imposed trauma of having wasted too much time, excess money and other scarce resources in chasing the Governor around the State and the country in futility.

It’s a case the PDP fighting very hard to regain its governorship office that it lost in 2020 only to be losing so much in poor preparations for the 2023 general elections and the guber election that will follow. Hence, the Party is holding the shorter end of the power baton as at the moment, with Governor Uzodimma proving effectively and efficiently in charge.

It’s such that should the general elections and the guber election hold today, APC will win with a wide margin and return Governor Uzodimma for a well deserved second term in office as Governor of Imo State. And with the fortune scale in favour of the current administration, the chances of APC and Uzodimma retaining power in 2023 are very high! Time will tell!

The point is that the PDP has so weakened themselves with pursuit of their past glory, such that chasing the 2023 governorship trophy in front of them has become a herculean task. PDP has never been so weak in Imo State as they are now. That’s unargubale!

They’ve danced themselves lame with old school songs of Bob Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Jackson, Lucky Dube etcetera, hence dancing the contemporary “pepper dem” song was too heavy on their clay feet at their deceptive victory dance in honour of their much hated Samdaddy at Abuja after the PDP National Convention on Sunday, October 31.

The PDP war against Governor Uzodimma has been a fulfillment of the adage: “Ochu nwa okuko nwe ada”! In their angry chase after the governorship seat of Governor Hope Uzodimma, the PDP has been experiencing avoidable falls and tumbles, crying for far too long over spilled milk, and losing more than they’re gaining. We believe with the critical points marshalled above, we’ve convinced and not confused you that PDP is dying in Imo State! Thank you!

In the next short essay, we’ll analyze further why it’s becoming quite certain that PDP will lose Imo State to APC in 2023. Please, stay tuned.

By God’s grace, Imo State must be rehabilitated, reconstructed and recovered!!
