Trouble is after the agencies and organization make public statements nobody threatens the lives of their leaders. But once we in the opposition analyze and report what the agencies and opposition stated in public, some pro-government vampires trouble our Israel with all sorts subtle and direct threats to our lives.
The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Comrade Austin Chilakpu, on May Day, May 1, 2020 publicly declared that the current regime hasn’t paid workers’ salaries since February in spite of the promise to pay on 25th of every month.
According to Imo NLC boss, a total of 19 paratatals and agencies haven’t been paid for three months, including Imo Broadcasting Corporation (IBC), Agriculture Development Programme (ADP), Imo State Water Corporation (ISWC), Imo State Poverty Alleviation Bureau, primary school teachers, secondary school teachers and others.
It’s just a collaboration of what we’d already been reporting to Imo people and the wider society by way of constructive criticism, not hatred, malice, abuse or insult. Nobody can successfully challenge our love for Imo State and Imo people! Our reports are for the good of Imo State and Imo people!
We wonder who’s that Imolite that’s happy and will support the situation of non-payment of salaries and pensions since three months!
We fear that as in the past experience with salaries and pensions, it may get to the stage where three months could pile up to six, nine and more months and so on. Is that good?
And the non-payment, according to the governor, isn’t because there’s no money. He confirmed in his first 100 days in office that there’s money. He also announced that he has been saving for the State N2 billion from ghosts in the Imo civil service and pensions.
There’s therefore no reason for the season of non-payment of salaries and pensions in Imo State. After all, the regime prides itself as the “Shared Prosperity regime”!
One good way to share prosperity in Imo State, reputed for being a civil service State, is by paying workers and pensioners as and when due.
From May 29 to December 2019, the then governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Ogbuagu Emeka Ihedioha CON, KSC, FNIFST succeeded in restoring the entire system of payment of 100% salaries and pensions.
Imo workers and pensioners were in no small measure very happy because Ihedioha restored their happiness and joy through the prompt and regular payment of their salaries and pensions.
What Imo people have been asking since thereafter is: “What happened and changed the process which ensured that salaries and pensions didn’t fail during the RebuildImo administration? Indeed, what happened?
Anyhow, it’s instructive that Comrade Chilakpu has once again boldly told Imo people and the world the truth that the current regime hasn’t paid salaries and pensions since February 2020!
We salute him for his leadership capacity and hope he would continue to stand by the truth and speak the truth to power whenever the need arises like now.
It’s now left for the regime to end the unacceptable system of non-payment of salaries and pensions, running into months. It should emulate Ihedioha and pay salaries and pensions before considering other sectors of the economy.
Let a sustainable stop be put to the avoidable and preventable suffering, deprivation and depravation, helplessness and haplessness of Imo workers and pensioners! The time to do that is now!
By the grace of God, Imo State must be rebuilt!
