Imo: When Oil And Gas Associations Said Yes To Uzodimma, Fuel Strike Ends, Things Normalize, Ndimo Rejoice

By Ogu Bundu Nwadike, M.A

For nearly one month, life in Imo State was turbulent. The turmoil was a product of a misunderstanding and disagreement between the Independent Petroleum Marketers and the Petrol Tanker Drivers on one side and the Government of Imo State on the other side.

After all said and done, His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, succeeded in bringing the protesting oil and gas associations to the roundtable and after some serious deliberations, he brought both sides to the same page, and the matter was effectively resolved.

A Joint-Committee of officials of government and officials of the associations was constituted, with liberal terms of reference that should help the Joint-Committee do a good job of their assignment.

The most important thing, however, is that Governor Uzodimma hearkened to the voices of patriotic Ndimo to invite the leadership of the associations to a crucial meeting and resolve the matter.

Prior to that, the minor misunderstanding and disagreement required processes and procedures, which couldn’t have in any way been handled and managed in the jiffy that some of us advocated at the time. That necessitated the delay in action.

However, when Governor Uzodimma waded into the brouhaha, after successfully hosting the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, peace was brokered, normalcy was restored, pump prices of petrol speedily returned to the federal price of N165, and Ndimo rejoiced as joy and happiness were restored by Governor Uzodimma!

As Ndigbo ask: “How many lions will a great hunter kill before he’s coronated as a lion killer?” Agu ole ka dinta ga ebe tupu echie ya ogbu agu?

The governor is a mortal like all mortals. He’s neither perfect or infallible. And in spite of contrary arguments, government is as old as the biblical Methusella! Hence, Government moves more in natural slow march than quick march. Governor Uzodimma quite understands that and has patiently abided with the demands of good government and good governance!

Ndimo have rightly been commending and applauding their governor for hearing and hearkening to their cries, yearnings and aspirations, and bringing to an end the fuel strike that took hard tolls on the people and their socioeconomic operations. To God be the glory!
