The Inspector-General of Police has re-arraigned controversial social media influencer Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), before the Federal High Court in Abuja on multiple charges of cyberbullying.

The charges, filed under Section 24 of the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015, stem from a series of videos posted on VDM’s Instagram handle (@verydarkblackman). The posts allegedly contained offensive, threatening, and defamatory content directed at notable Nigerian celebrities, including Iyabo Ojo, Tonto Dikeh, and Samklef.

Key Allegations:

1. Bullying and Threats Against Samklef:
On or about October 13, 2023, VDM allegedly posted a video targeting music producer Samuel Oguachuba (Samklef) with statements described as bullying and threatening.

2. Defamatory Claims About Iyabo Ojo:
On October 29, 2023, VDM was said to have released a video accusing actress Iyabo Ojo of engaging in an “indecent sexual relationship with her daughter.” Authorities consider the statement grossly offensive, pornographic, and obscene.

3. False Accusations Against Tonto Dikeh:
On January 19, 2024, VDM reportedly claimed that actress Tonto Dikeh diverted funds from the Justice for Mohbad Movement and operated the controversial gossip blog Gistlover. These claims are alleged to be false, defamatory, and harmful to her public image.

Background of the Feud:

The ongoing clash between VeryDarkMan and actresses Iyabo Ojo and Tonto Dikeh traces back to heated social media exchanges following the death of singer Ilerioluwa Aloba (Mohbad) in 2023. VDM, known for his unapologetic activism and blunt commentaries, became increasingly vocal, often clashing with public figures.

His style, though celebrated by some followers for its candor, has also drawn criticism and now, legal consequences.

Court Proceedings:

At the hearing on May 15, the court acknowledged the Inspector-General’s re-arraignment and formally presented the cyberbullying charges. The case has been adjourned to July 24, 2025, for further proceedings.

This case reignites national debate over social media conduct, freedom of expression, and the limits of public commentary, especially from influencers with massive followings.
