Israel has reportedly carried out an airstrike on a building housing Iran’s powerful Assembly of Experts in the holy city of Qom, targeting the 88-member clerical body constitutionally responsible for appointing the country’s Supreme Leader.
The strike comes amid reports that members of the Assembly were convening for critical discussions regarding the selection of a successor to slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei.
Unconfirmed reports circulating on social media claim that all 88 members of the Assembly were killed in the attack. However, there has been no official confirmation from Iranian authorities or independent verification of the casualty figures as of press time.
Developing story.
